Renewal

Blue-jays chase a squirrel from a moss-

covered tree, it's spring--nesting time

no place for a jittery squirrel to be.

Winds, both warm and moist tickle month's

dead twigs back to life. Behold, the

horticultural Lazerus begins its strife!

Cultivated perenial skeletons flesh

themselves out--garishly green buds spread all

through the yellowed garden's center.

Wildflowers--unaided--already laugh

in a bright cascade of colors at the

retreating edge of winter.

April has moved into her summer home--

joined by lovely sisters May and June

at last. They have lease here only

until October--then are evicted by Jack

Frost's enevitable blast.

Fortunately--winter's never last!
